INTRODUCTION TO MASS COMMUNICATIONS (COMS110) A broad based introduction to
communication theory, this course surveys scientific and interpretive approaches
to the study, analysis, and explanation of communication within a variety of
contexts.
HUMANITIES IN WESTERN CULTURE (HUMN 101) A survey course which concentrates on
the development of the Western Culture. It is an integrated study of the visual
arts, drama, and music and the discipline of philosophy that permeates all the
arts.
SPEECH COMMUNICATION (COMS 101) Study and practice in communicating ideas
competently in public speaking. Students are also given a foundation for
development of communication skills in other human communication contexts,
including dyadic and small group communications.
COMPOSITION AND LITERATURE (ENGL 102) Continues the emphasis on writing. Two
analytical papers based upon studies of the short story, poetry and drama and a
research paper sequentially developed, are required.
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSYC 210) An overview of the human lifespan from
conception through senescence. Continuity of development as well as critical
periods faced by the maturing human will be emphasized using contemporary
theories and research as foundation materials.
INTRODUCTION TO SOCIOLOGY (SOCI 200) A study of social theories, their
histories, social structures and conflict emphasizing human, institutional and
group interactions. The course provides an overview of political, economic, and
cultural phenomena and methodologies of the result of scientific social
research. In addition it seeks to expand ides, concepts, theoretical and
practical orientation by using a comparative perspective.
SOCIAL PROBLEMS (SOCI 201) A study of social dilemmas such as crime, pollution,
war, poverty, drug addiction, and racial discrimination. Course content is both
theoretical and practical.
RHETORIC AND COMPOSITION (ENGL 15) Instruction and practice in writing
expository prose that shows sensitivity to audience and purpose.
PSYCHOLOGY (PSY 2) Introduction to general psychology; principles of human
behavior and their applications.
NEW TESTAMENT (RL ST 120) Introduction to the history, literature, and religion
of early Christianity in its Jewish-Hellenistic setting
HEBREW BIBLE: OLD TESTAMENT (RL ST 110) Introduction to the history, literature,
and religion of ancient Israel.
